This page is dedicated to the ones we’ve lost.
Sometimes no matter how much time, money and love we give a horse the kindest thing to do is to let them go. Some are just too far gone but they do get to know what love and care is even if it is for a short time.
Here are their stories:
Jack was a permanent resident and was also our mascot for years until we retired him in 2016. He loved everyone and had such a gentle spirit. He introduced so many people to the wonderful world of donkeys. If you met him you instantly fell in love. He was so kind, gentle and loving. He always knew when you were sad and would lay his head on you to comfort you. He could give you the saddest puppy dog eyes ever and could convince anyone to give him food. He was always polite about it but he always won you over in the end. His favorites were chocolate chips cookies and then when his teeth got bad, vanilla wafers. We will never be the same without him. Jack passed away June 27th, 2018.
RIP our dear Jack. We were all blessed to have known you.
Lady was one of our dearly loved permanent residents. She was surrendered due to her owners health deteriorating. Lady was good with people and was used in educational seminars and school functions for a while. She also was shown in a few shows with our younger volunteers. She battled some health issues and it just got worse. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to help her crossover peacefully on February 7th, 2019. Lady will be missed by many.
Velvet was a permanent resident that lived at one of our foster homes. She went peacefully on her own Thanksgiving night, November 23, 2017. Velvet was one of our most severe starvation cases. She was a walking skeleton when she arrived. We had her fat and healthy in no time and she even went on to place well in the show ring. Just before her foster family was going to adopt her we found out she was highly allergic to ragweed and along with many other things including a few different types of grass.
RIP our dear sweat Velvet.
