More than forty competitors of all ages braved the chilly temperatures and gusty winds on Saturday, November 1, to compete in the Hope Equine Rescue Obstacle Challenge at Time to Shine Equestrian Center in Lakeland.

The event featured 20 obstacles that were meant to be fun and challenging. The Obstacle Challenge raised $1,596 for Hope Equine Rescue, which will be put towards the daily care of the many rescued equine currently in H.E.R. care. The rescue currently takes in mostly law enforcement seizures that are in need of extensive rehabilitation. President, Dani Horton, was pleased with the outcome and the doors it has opened for some. “In the novice division, most of them had never competed before so it was a really good experience for them,” Horton said.

Former rescue, Nick Dudley, and owner Del Jones, placed first in the in-hand competition. It was Nick Dudley’s first obstacle challenge.
